Welcome to Barnsley Academy...

As Principal of Barnsley Academy, I am delighted to welcome you to our website. I hope that it provides you with all the information you need about the academy, but more importantly, gives an insight into life here and enables you to celebrate with us the achievements of our incredible students, families and staff.

In the ever-changing world of education, we believe in keeping things simple. Our goal is to provide the very best school at the heart of its community. To achieve this, we are committed to the provision of personalised support for all of our students, helping them to achieve all that they are capable of and fulfilling their aspirations. The academy is also driven by a desire to work with parents and carers to develop an environment which provides a truly holistic and inclusive approach, generating high expectations and standards at every level.

Our Academy is sponsored by United Learning – a group of schools and academies which aims to provide excellent education to all children and young people across the country. As a United Learning academy, we are able to work within a national network of successful schools and offer more than any single school could. Working collaboratively enables all of United Learning’s schools and academies to bring out “the best in everyone” – students, staff, parents and the wider community.

We are a rapidly improving school that places our students at the centre of everything we do - something praised by Ofsted in our last inspection. Our staff are exceptionally hardworking and dedicated to improving the life chances and choices for all of our students and, as Principal, it is a privilege to work with such dedicated professionals and amazing students.

Barnsley Academy students supporting the Community

Miss Read

On Friday 10th June 2016, a group of students supported a Community event at the Kendray and Worsbrough Family Centre in Barnsley. Students performed a selection of Dance pieces to families from the area who were very complementary of our students' work. Pupils worked tirelessly throughout the afternoon and, during a well earned break, joined in to some of the events on offer. A fantastic event where our students did us proud once again. Keep up the great work!

Well done to all those year 11’s putting in 100% these last few weeks, making most of evening school and after school intervention to help them secure the best grades possible – keep going. Always available for any support you may need”

In Year 7 we have been looking at Properties of shape which has seen exceptional work produced from Niamh Astley, George Jackson and Jack Scales. Really impressed with students attitude to learning within class.

Year 11 have been working really hard since Easter with just a couple of weeks to go. Attend as many sessions as you can and make the most of the time you have left to prepare.“

Mr Richards – “Jordan Milnthorpe, 10bm2, fantastic effort in class and on homework has led to him making great progress this year.”

Mr Cave - "Massive improvement from 10G1 this week on probability, with multiple students making key contributions to lesson discussions such as Jack Green & Dion Dumbrell.

In Year 8 we've had a smooth transition onto shapes with a large focus on them independently investigating properties of shapes to work them out. So well done to everyone for having that perseverance even when the maths is getting difficult and a little hard to visualise. Special mention to Emily Peaker for outstanding attitude to progressing in lessons at every opportunity.

We've just finished working with Proportion in Year 7 which has proved to be a topic that most students have struggled to get their head round, however they've all made heaps of progress in the last week, so well done to everyone. Special mention to Sophie Bristow for overcoming those initial obstacles and persevering, and also Zak Hendley for consistently challenging himself where possible and making outstanding contributions to not only class discussions but to articulating problems for other students."
