Transition

We currently have places available for 2017/18.

As a learning community with the needs of our children very much at its centre, we aim to ensure all students at Barnsley Academy enjoy the journey from primary to secondary education.

Effective and meaningful transition is essential to ensure that all students achieve success and develop as an individual. We aim to ensure all students enjoy and benefit from a smooth and progressive transition from Key Stage 2 to KS3, through to KS4 and beyond.

Our transition process involves a three tiered level of support including:

  • Y5 & Y6 Open Evening that gives parents, carers and students the chance to look around the academy, take part in taster lessons and hear from our senior leadership team.
  • NEW FOR 2017 Parent taster evenings involving parents, carers and students participating in a programme of engaging lessons and support sessions. Including Restorative Justice Explained and how this links in with anti bullying at the academy, well-being of our students and how we keep our students safe, help with homework and how parents and carers can support outside of school.
  • Transition Weeks – From Monday 10th July till Friday 21st July 2017 – We want to make the change from Primary school to Secondary as positive an experience as we can. To this end we collect information about students from Primaries throughout Year 6. All students complete a 2 week transition programme that runs from July until the end of the summer term. During this time students will become familiar with the school’s way of working, expectations and layout. They will experience the new school day first hand and start to build relationships with peers and staff alike.

Transition Weeks - In order to provide a smooth transition for all primary children with a place at the Academy, your child will be attending the Academy for the last two weeks of the summer term - from Monday 10th July until Friday 21st July 2017.

To help your child feel part of our school community during the transition weeks we would like your child to be in uniform which will be white shirt with stiff collar, black trousers or skirt, black shoes, blazers are not required until September 2017.  Our uniform is available to purchase from Vortex or online from Tesco’s using the following website address: http://uniformeasy.com/131749. Details of our uniform can be found on here our website: http://www.barnsley-academy.org/Students/Uniform-Equipment
