Gifted and Talented
Gifted
All primary and secondary schools are required by the Government to identify and maintain a register of Gifted and Talented pupils.
GIFTED - pupils are those who are identified as being the most academically able in a given school.
Talented
TALENTED - pupils are those who have been identified as having exceptional talent in Music, Sport, Drama and Technology. Activities undertaking outside school are also valid. Examples may include Karate, Fly-fishing or Fencing.
Identification
Gifted and Talented pupils are nominated in a variety of ways including prior performance and individual teacher nominations. The Government recommendation is that each school cohort should account for approximately 10% of its pupils. We also value communication from parents and this is particularly important in respect of talents of which we may otherwise have no knowledge in school. The cohort is fluid and is regularly monitored, so that new pupils, for example. have an opportunity t be in the cohort.
Disclosure
Any pupils who have been identified as Gifted and Talented are informed of this and letters are sent home, inviting pupils to attend a number of meetings with the Gifted and Talented Coordinator.
