Curriculum Key Stage 3

All our Key Stage 3 students at the Academy have a broad Curriculum which allows them to experience a wide array of subject areas in a typical week.  This allows the students to have an experience of all subject areas, prior to specialising at the end of Key Stage 3 when they make their Option choices for further study in Key Stage 4.

Year 7 & 8

All students in Year 7 and 8 study the following subjects: Maths, Science, English, Mechanics of Written Language, ICT, RE, PE and Enterprise – these are our Core Subjects that all students will study throughout Key Stage 3 and 4. 

This takes into account the academies specialism of Science and Enterprise Students also study Art, Technology (Food Resistant Materials & Graphics) Modern Foreign Languages (French or German) Geography, History, Music and Drama.  These are our Non-core subjects – these are the areas in which students can either choose to continue to study in Key Stage 4, or not as the case may be.

Year 9

Currently in Year 9 we have a slightly different curriculum to the one in lower school. Students have been able to choose an option choice which they will then continue to study into Key Stage 4. Maths, Science, English, Mechanics of Written Language, ICT, RE, PE and Enterprise – these are our Core Subjects that all students will study throughout Key Stage 3 and 4. 

This takes into account the academies specialism of Science and Enterprise Students also study Art, Technology (FoodResistant Materials) Modern Foreign Languages (French) Geography and History. 

These are our Non-core subjects – these are the areas in which students can either choose to continue to study in Key Stage 4, or not as the case may be. Students also take a rotation for 1 period a week where they experience Graphics, Textiles and Business Studies – this is to allow them a taste of additional subject we offer at Key Stage 4. In their option choice – students have opted to follow a course of Dance, Drama, Music or Sports Science, these subjects if continued into Key Stage 4 will be accredited with the appropriate qualification for the subject area.
