Welcome to Barnsley Academy 6th Form

We welcome you to Barnsley Academy Sixth Form. We are a newly established provider of Post 16 education. Since we opened the Sixth Form in September 2006, we have continued to grow steadily and increase the number of courses on offer to meet the needs of our students, our local community and the wider national and international economy. English and Mathematics are at the heart of our programmes alongside Science and Business to reflect the specialist status of Barnsley Academy, as well as wider economic needs.

The Academy provides state of the art facilities and we offer a warm and caring atmosphere in which our students feel happy and safe and where they are encouraged to raise their aspirations to achieve their best.

Barnsley Academy is part of the United Learning Trust (ULT), the largest single sponsor of academies in the UK, whose shared aim is to bring out “the best in everyone.”

Sixth Form teaching aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills to become independent learners, to aspire to go on to university and to embark upon a journey of life-long learning. To this end, we keep class sizes small and take a pride in the additional support which we give to students. Learning is under-pinned by excellent relationships between staff and students.

We have a dedicated Post 16 Team comprising a Learning Director, who takes responsibility at a strategic level, an Assistant Director, who works closely with students on a daily basis and a full-time Post 16 Learning Mentor.
