At Key Stage 4 we have a range of different paths that can be taken by our students when picking their GCSE Options.

 

OCR GCSE Business 

What will my child learn?

This course covers all aspects of business and allows students to run their own business to build up real skills for their future. The course covers

  • Marketing, including advertising, development of products, setting the best price.
  • Recruitment, including how businesses get the right staff and keep them working well.
  • Business structures, including the different ways to set up a business.
  • Finance, including how businesses get the money to set up and operate and how they make a profit.
  • Business operations, including how businesses produce the things we buy.
  • Influences on businesses, including the environment and how many businesses are operating around the world.

 

How will my child be assessed?

Unit 1 and Unit 2 are two 90 minute written exams that are assessed at the end of Year 11, each with an equal weighting of 50% of the GCSE. Some questions will be multiple choice, some will be extended writing to test your ability to explain why you made a particular decision.

 

Edexcel BTEC Business 

What will my child learn?

This course covers all aspects of Business where students will be required to use a range of research skills and knowledge to build up their own business portfolio. The units that we will study are

 

  • Unit 1 - Business Enterprise
  • Unit 2 - Finance
  • Unit 3 - Branding
  • Unit 8 - Recruitment, Selection and Employment

 

How will my child be assessed?

Unit 1, 3 and 4 will be assessed based on coursework completed in lesson and will make up 75%. Unit 2 Finance will be externally assessed and is worth 25% of the overall grade.

 

Edexcel CiDA – Developing Web products and Creative multimedia

What will my child learn?

This qualification aims to equip young people with the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to design and make, effective digital products for others to use. The units that will be covered are: -

 

  • Unit 1 - Developing Web Products - This unit provides students with the knowledge, practical and creative skills they need to use web authoring software, multimedia assets and navigation features to produce web products. Students will learn to design, create, test and evaluate them.
  • Unit 2 – Multimedia project – This units allows the students to develop their ICT skills to create an action brochure to advertise a given business, create animations and a short movie.

 

How will my child be assessed?

Assessment is made up of 75% coursework based on the multimedia project that will be completed in lesson. Then 25% is a practical examination based on Unit 1 Developing web products.

 

How can I support my child’s learning at home?

Students can use revision guides at home and access GCSE Pod to further their understanding.
