BARNSLEY ACADEMY CELEBRATES IMPROVEMENTS AT GCSE
Barnsley Academy students and staff are celebrating their GCSE results today.
Over half of students (51%) achieved five or more 9-4/A*-C grades including English and maths, under this year’s new GCSE grading structure. This is up from 47% last year.
There were several notable performances including:
- Stuart Zekaj who achieved Grade 9s in Maths, Science, History, plus Grade 8s in English Language and Literature as well as an A* Grade in ICT.
- Jennifer Hunt who achieved a Grade 9 in English Language, plus Grade 8s in English Literature, Science, History, PE and Photography.
- Jordan Hodgson who achieved Grade 9s in Combined Sciences and a Grade 8 in Maths.
- Neve Fellowes who achieved Grade 8s in English Language, Maths, History, Science, PE and Photography.
All four students will continue their studies at Barnsley Sixth Form College from September.
Stephen Dixon, Principal of Barnsley Academy, said:
“Congratulations to all of our students on this year’s strong set of results. Given that students were examined under the new harder grading system, it is particularly pleasing to see a rise in the number of students achieving the top GCSE grades.
“Thank you to our fantastic staff who worked tirelessly to prepare our students for this year’s exams. We are fortunate at Barnsley Academy to have a team of committed, hard-working and enthusiastic teachers who always go the extra mile for their students. These results would not be possible without them, or the support of our fantastic parents.”
