MATILDA THE MUSICAL COMES TO BARNSLEY ACADEMY
Barnsley Academy’s Year 7 and 8 students brought the house down when they staged their version of smash hit musical, ‘Matilda.’
Based on the famous Roald Dahl Book and the Royal Shakespeare Company’s theatrical adaptation, Matilda tells the story of an extraordinary little girl with extraordinary powers and her amazing adventures, featuring such memorable characters as cruel headmistress Miss Trunchbull and the kind Miss Honey!
With Safaa Shreef in the title role, the cast also featured lead singers Abbie Marshall, Karina Bryant, Tyler Johnson and Maddie Lockwood, with Paris Armitage as Mrs Wormwood, Tighe Taylor as Mr Wormwood, Yolanda Moyo as Miss Trunchbull, Amber Kaderja as Mrs Phelps, Jasmine Dunning as Miss Honey, Joshua Bold as Rudolpio, Lauren Cook as the doctor and Liam Mountain as Bruce.
Though an abridged version of the musical, the academy’s production, which ran on the 12th and 13th December, still managed to squeeze in a number of songs including Naughty, the School Song, the Chokey, Bruce and Revolting Children. Pupils from Hunningley and Bank End Primary School’s were also treated to a special matinee performance on the 11th December.
Commented Barnsley Academy Principal Stephen Dixon:
“What a fantastic production, which wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of all the students and staff involved, including the show’s directors, Mrs Parkes and Miss Read. We have also uncovered some real talent in the process, so watch out West End!”
