THE INEVITABLE GOODBYE!
Barnsley Academy students focus on loss as the theme for this year’s Rock Challenge entry
Barnsley Academy is hoping to repeat its success in last year’s Rock Challenge competition with another musical masterpiece.
‘Rock Challenge’ is a series of performing arts events promoting healthy life choices and supported by the Be Your Best Foundation, with this year’s regional heat taking place at Rotherham’s Magna Science Arena on Friday 9th March.
Picking up four Awards of excellence in last year’s competition, this year the Barnsley Academy team of Year 7 to 10 students will be looking to win over the judges with their piece, ‘The Inevitable Goodbye,’ securing a place in this summer’s Northern Final.
Inspired by the works of film director Tim Burton, the piece tells the tale of a father’s desperate efforts to maintain the relationship with his son, whilst heading towards ‘the inevitable goodbye.’
In preparation, the academy’ students have been working tirelessly during enrichment sessions and weekend rehearsals. Once again, staff are also lending their support, with this year’s costumes and set hand made by teachers Miss Robertshaw and Mr Scully respectively.
Commented Barnsley Academy Principal Mr Stephen Dixon:
“Rock Challenge is an excellent forum where our students can showcase their skills and creativity through the mediums of drama and movement. Following last year’s success, we’re hoping that 2018 sees us bring home the overall winner’s trophy!”
