The Mathematics Department at Barnsley Academy is a dynamic, welcoming department which provides our students with the necessary mathematical and logical skills required to succeed in a school context and also in the outside world.

Key Stage 3 students follow a scheme of work designed to prepare them for Key Stage 4 success. This includes as many practical activities as possible. We also provide a Mathematics Challenge Day for our advanced performance groups once a year where they explore numerous logical activities and brain teasers.

The Key Stage 4 students are split into Higher and Foundation classes depending on their ability and they are all working towards gaining their GCSE qualification. In Key Stage 4 the students are formally assessed each term and, by adopting a question level analysis approach, we are actively engaged in tailoring lessons to specific individual needs.
