To ensure the safety of our children as they leave the Academy a barrier system will be in place from Monday 27th February cars will no longer be able to wait in the first car park or on the service road off of the roundabout in front of the school.

Cars will be able to park in the drop off areas and the far car park.

We welcome your support in making the Academy a safer place for all.

Y9 Options Evening Wednesday 1st March 2017 4.00 pm – 6.30 pm

The Options Evening for Year 9 students will be held on Wednesday 1st March between 4.00pm and 6.30pm. We hope that you will be able to attend this extremely important event with your child to support their choices of optional subjects as they move into Key Stage 4

The event will run slightly differently to the usual Parents’ Evenings with all departments being present in the Sports Hall to publicise details of the courses that they are running next year. This is an open display which can be accessed at any time, and without appointments required. In addition, at two separate time slots a short presentation will occur in the Main Hall explaining the pathways students can take, and the process for making options choices. It is recommended that you attend one of these presentations to fully understand the whole options process.

The Sports Hall will be open from 4.00pm to view the displays and discuss options with subject specific staff, and will remain open until 6.30pm. The two presentations will occur at 4.30pm and 5.30pm (you only need to attend one of these) in the Main Hall, with members of the Senior Leadership Team available to answer any specific questions that you may have after the presentation has finished.

Please let me know if you are unable to attend the evening so that I can post out information to you, or alternatively contact you directly if you so wish.

If you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.

I look forward to seeing you on the 1st March.

Welcome to Barnsley Academy...

As Principal of Barnsley Academy, I am delighted to welcome you to our website. I hope that it provides you with all the information you need about the academy, but more importantly, gives an insight into life here and enables you to celebrate with us the achievements of our incredible students, families and staff.

In the ever-changing world of education, we believe in keeping things simple. Our goal is to provide the very best school at the heart of its community. To achieve this, we are committed to the provision of personalised support for all of our students, helping them to achieve all that they are capable of and fulfilling their aspirations. The academy is also driven by a desire to work with parents and carers to develop an environment which provides a truly holistic and inclusive approach, generating high expectations and standards at every level.

Our Academy is sponsored by United Learning – a group of schools and academies which aims to provide excellent education to all children and young people across the country. As a United Learning academy, we are able to work within a national network of successful schools and offer more than any single school could. Working collaboratively enables all of United Learning’s schools and academies to bring out “the best in everyone” – students, staff, parents and the wider community.

We are a rapidly improving school that places our students at the centre of everything we do - something praised by Ofsted in our last inspection. Our staff are exceptionally hardworking and dedicated to improving the life chances and choices for all of our students and, as Principal, it is a privilege to work with such dedicated professionals and amazing students.

Y7/8 and Y9 Rugby Squads

This incredible picture is of our Y7/8 and Y9 rugby squads who played in their respective tournaments last night at Shaw Lane.

Fantastic performances from both teams ensured that we won all of our games, with great performances from students who were playing competitively for the first time, to students who are seasoned veterans!

A very proud moment for Mr Pirie and Mr Parkinson to take 32 lads to a rugby tournament and dominate on this scale, something which the students must take all of the credit for. Please congratulate them if you see them today.
