The MFL (Modern Foreign Language) department at Barnsley Academy is able to offer French, German or Spanish to pupils at GCSE level.  Depending on which pathway pupils are in depends on the language they will study.

Y = Spanish

Pupils do either French or German to carry on in Y11 at GCSE.  Pupils will pick the language they have studied in years 7-9.

Pupils do GCSE French or German and we have a small class doing FCSE Spanish.

Our pupils have the option of studying a GCSE in one of our MFL subjects at Key Stage 4 as part of Y9 option choices.

Pupils studying a modern foreign language develop a wide range of communication and literacy skills as part of our MFL curriculum, applying their previous knowledge to a range of topics.

Culture and content of a language are covered across all languages. Pupils are encouraged to use skills they learn in MFL across all subjects they study.
