Uniform Expectations - Barnsley Academy 2016/17

Top button fastened
and tie showing BA logo

Blazer worn at all times
and sleeves not rolled up


Trousers should not be tight to the calf,
but instead be looser fitting as shown above


Skirts should be just above
the knee and no shorter

Trousers - Smart, tailored, plain, black school trousers of waist height to ankle length are to be worn. 
(Tailored Trousers - are not fitted to the shape of the body and are generally loose fitting around the calf.  The hem when held has a gap of at least 5-10cm from the ankle)

- Smart, plain, black skirt of knee length or just above the knee (no more than 4 inches above the knee)

 - A white school shirt with long sleeves which buttons up to the collar (suitable for wearing a tie) must be worn. The top button must be fastened at all times.

 - A black blazer with embroidered United Learning badge must be worn by all students. Sleeves must be rolled down to the wrists at all times. (Food and drink should never be carried around in blazer pockets and should be in school bags).


– A Barnsley Academy clip-on tie 



(In cold weather, Barnsley Academy cardigans and jumpers can be worn under blazers, however, these are optional and are not to be worn in place of the blazer. Hoodies/non Barnsley Academy cardigans and jumpers are not allowed to be worn in any part of the school building at any time.)

- All students must wear hard-soled, black school shoes or plain black trainers. Footwear must be entirely black have no coloured logo's or soles. Boots of any sort are not allowed.


Socks – plain black socks only

– black tights only

PE Kit 
- All students are required to wear Barnsley Academy PE tops, black shorts or dark plain tracksuit bottoms and black football socks



 - One small, single stud or sleeper in each ear lobe, a wrist watch and one small ring is allowed.

Medical identity bracelets and necklaces can be worn with proof of a medical need. Other jewellery will be confiscated and placed in the school safe to be returned to students at the end of the school day.

No other piercings or piercing retainers are allowed.



School Bags 
- All students should have a strong school bag big enough to contain school planner, pencil case, books and other equipment needed for the school day as per the equipment list below. (If food is being brought into school, it must be placed in school bags therefore the bag needs to be big enough to hold any food as well).

Make Up 
Subtle natural makeup is allowed, (no false eyelashes or extreme brows, bold lipsticks, heavy foundation, bold blusher/highlighter, heavy mascara).


 - false nails or nail polish is not allowed to be worn, students will be asked to remove them.

 - Extreme haircuts are not allowed. It is at the School’s discretion as to what constitutes ‘extreme’ but usually involves shaven heads, carved/patterned shapes in short hairstyles, multi-coloured or unusually coloured hair. We accept natural colourings e.g. black, brown, blonde, and natural red/auburn. Natural red is often the most difficult to interpret so as a general rule, if red takes on a vivid tone we will ask for it to be altered as it doesn’t look natural. Striped or multi-coloured designs are not allowed.
