Revision Homework

Our Shared Goal

Our shared goal is to ensure every student reaches their potential and has access to the future they deserve. We believe in them and are committed to providing every possible opportunity for them to be successful.

We know that by working together with families, we can support students to achieve outstanding results. Encouraging students to complete revision homework will significantly impact the results they achieve.

A Better Approach to Homework

We have made it our aim to get homework right, ensuring students know what to revise and when, but most importantly focusing on how students develop the skills and strategies needed to revise at home independently. Here on our school website, we have provided students and families with the clarity and guidance needed to complete effective revision homework as an extension of the work completed in class to support how they retain, understand and apply fundamental knowledge with high levels of accuracy and success.

Class Work is not Enough

We want our students to be ready to compete with all students nationally. Maximising every minute in school and at home will determine how they perform in comparison to their peers. We want them to outperform their peers, because we know that strong exam results open doors to greater choices and give students a better chance to pursue happy, successful and fulfilling lives.

Knowledge is power. Hard work at home strengthens the learning that occurs in class. Repetition and practice give students the greatest opportunity to secure life-changing outcomes.

The Approach

Our students respond to rigor and routine. Revision homework is a routine like everything else we do in school. By modelling how to revise in lessons and monitoring and checking that knowledge is secure, we empower students to complete revision homework and give it a purpose and value.

How it looks in practice:

  • Less is more. Two strategies: flash cards and knowledge organisers.
  • We provide flash cards and knowledge organisers in class for students to use at home.
  • We introduce and teach the fundamental knowledge that students need to know in class.
  • We regularly model how to create flash cards and use knowledge organisers to self-quiz at home.
  • We complete weekly knowledge tests in class to check that students are retaining fundamental knowledge.
  • We record and monitor students’ performances in our mark books and trackers.
  • We contact home to communicate engagement levels and test scores to celebrate successes and offer support to remove barriers to engaging with homework.
