The Approach
Our students respond to rigor and routine. Revision homework is a routine like everything else we do in school. By modelling how to revise in lessons and monitoring and checking that knowledge is secure, we empower students to complete revision homework and give it a purpose and value.
How it looks in practice:
- Less is more. Two strategies: flash cards and knowledge organisers.
- We provide flash cards and knowledge organisers in class for students to use at home.
- We introduce and teach the fundamental knowledge that students need to know in class.
- We regularly model how to create flash cards and use knowledge organisers to self-quiz at home.
- We complete weekly knowledge tests in class to check that students are retaining fundamental knowledge.
- We record and monitor students’ performances in our mark books and trackers.
- We contact home to communicate engagement levels and test scores to celebrate successes and offer support to remove barriers to engaging with homework.
