A better approach to homework

For the coming year, we have made it our aim to get homework right, ensuring students know what to revise, but most importantly how to revise independently, while committing to providing parents with the clarity and guidance that they need to support their children to effectively revise at home.

We have worked hard in the summer term using educational research to develop an effective and sustainable approach to homework using two strategies across all subjects: flash cards and knowledge organisers.

We have also used the final weeks of the term to teach students how to revise at home and will continue to do so over the course of the year.

Committing to short, regular bursts of revision.

Revising 4-5 days a week for 10-15 minutes in the subjects they study, around 60-90 minutes each day, will help them to retain the knowledge that they have been taught this year. Moreover, if you have looked at their last report and are worried that they are not on track to achieve strong results, this strategy will help them to close the gaps in their knowledge.

We know that by working together, we can support students to achieve outstanding results. Encouraging students to engage with revision homework will make a significant difference.

How to Effectively Revise

The video clips below summarise how we are teaching students to revise in class.  This is a consistent approach across subjects to avoid confusion and maximise impact.

Please use these clips to support your child if they are struggling with revision homework.
