Safeguarding & Wellbeing
Barnsley Academy recognises that safeguarding encompasses the duties of child protection and promoting the rights and welfare of children. As such, it is:
- Everyone’s responsibility to safeguard children
- Everyone who comes into contact with children and families has a role to play; and
- Everyone working with children maintains an attitude of ‘it could happen here’.
This includes all staff, governors and volunteers working in the school.
It also applies to contractors and visitors during any interactions they may have with children, United Learning central office staff and to Trustees, working in or on behalf of the school.
Barnsley Academy recognises that students who have problems or concerns in their lives will find it more difficult to focus on their education and schoolwork if they do not have the right support.
We also buy in the external services of counsellors from other organisations to further strengthen our range of support and are able to provide the following;
- a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) Counsellor from a company called Unravel (Psychological Support Service)
- an LGBTQ Counsellor and Youth Worker from Barnardo’s Positive Identities Service.
- Counsellors from MindSpace (group and one-to-one) – mental health support for young people in Barnsley
We also work very closely with Educational Psychology teams, TADS (young people’s wellbeing charity), Barnsley Targeted Youth Support, Barnsley Chilipep (empowering young people), to name a few. We also have a team of 10 staff who, besides their day-to-day roles are also trained in Rainbows Bereavement Counselling
Whatever the problem, we will find a way to help…
