WHAT TYPE OF HOMEWORK WILL BE SET?

Homework will be set each week, usually on Friday for the following Friday. This will be in the form of one task to be completed on Hegarty Maths, an online learning platform which can be accessed on computers, tablets, and smartphones through the website hegartymaths.com (although computers are recommended for ease of use). Students are expected to watch the video clip in full, copying down any examples into their purple “Hegarty Books” and making notes which will help them to remember and understand. Once this has been done, they should complete the online quiz, writing their working out into their “Hegarty Books” and self-assessing in red pen as they proceed (ticking if correct; correcting if necessary).

Year 11 students can also expect to be asked to take home practice exam papers for completion, especially as they exams themselves get closer.

HOW CAN I SUPPORT MY CHILD’S LEARNING AT HOME?

Hegarty Maths (see above) is an excellent tool for independent learning, and will help to embed the key skills needed in lesson (following examples, taking notes, applying methods to similar questions), as well as providing instant feedback on practice. After each assessment point students should receive a list of topics from their class teacher detailing where they lost marks and which tasks they should complete in order to revise each particular skill.

There are many other excellent online resources students can access for practice and revision, including:
