Leading dance company BalletBoyz turned to Barnsley Academy when it needed performers for a specialist dance project.

As part of the project, which is backed by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation,a group of dancers from the Academy were selected to take part in the project, which saw themreceive training from some of the best dancers in the country.

Barnsley Academy’s own entrepreneurs Holly Bedford, Ashleigh Jackson and Tawana Chapanduka saw their business skills rewarded when they were chosen to attend the Barnsley Young Champions Awards, hosted by the Barnsley Chronicle. 

DUKE OF EDINBURGH FIRST FOR BARNSLEY ACADEMY STUDENTS

A group of Year 10 students have become the first at Barnsley Academy to achieve their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) award.

As part of the scheme, the last 12 months has seen the 17 strong group develop new skills, take part in a range of physical activities (including hiking in the Yorkshire Dales) and carry out volunteer work.

Barnsley Academy is hoping to repeat its success in last year’s Rock Challenge competition with another musical masterpiece.

‘Rock Challenge’ is a series of performing arts events promoting healthy life choices and supported by the Be Your Best Foundation, with this year’s regional heat taking place at Rotherham’s Magna Science Arena on Friday 9th March.

Barnsley Academy’s Year 7 and 8 students brought the house down when they staged their version of smash hit musical, ‘Matilda.’

Based on the famous Roald Dahl Book and the Royal Shakespeare Company’s theatrical adaptation, Matilda tells the story of an extraordinary little girl with extraordinary powers and her amazing adventures, featuring such memorable characters as cruel headmistress Miss Trunchbull and the kind Miss Honey!

The corridors of Kendray Hospital are brighter, thanks to new artwork produced by students from Barnsley Academy.

The paintings and pictures have been produced as part of the Kudos Project, a multi-agency scheme including Berneslai Homes, South Yorkshire Police, Barnsley Academy and South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Kendray Hospital.

GCSE results will be released to students on Thursday 24th August 2017. Results can be collected from the Main Hall from 10:00 onwards.

On 4th July 2017 Barnsley Academy students took part in the Barnsley Schools Athletics Championships at Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre.

The students were fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Some of the individual event winners include Neve Fellowes, Semir Mehanvoic, James Tongue, and Jared Markey.
