Students celebrate GCSE success at Barnsley Academy
Students at Barnsley Academy are celebrating after receiving their GCSE results.
In another record-breaking year for the academy, 53% of students achieved five or more good passes (grade 4 or above) including English and maths – up from 50% last year.
The academy achieved particularly good results in English, with 71% of students achieving a grade 4 or above and 20% achieving a grade 7 or above.
There were also a number of particularly impressive individual successes including:
- Katie Booth, who achieved Grade 9s in Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geography; a Grade 8 in English Language and History, as well as Grade 7s in English Literature and French and Distinction* grades in Sport and Art;
- Connor Scarfe, who achieved Grade 9 in English Language and Chemistry; Grade 8s in Maths, Biology, Geography, German and Physics, as well as Grade 7s in English Literature and Business Studies and a Distinction* in Sport.
Stephen Dixon, Principal of Barnsley Academy, said:
“This is yet another record breaking year for us and the academy community is celebrating another strong set of results. I would like to congratulate all the students on their achievements today.
“Students, staff and parents have worked exceptionally hard over the past year and today’s results are testament to that. Yet again, we have had some superb individual performances and I wish our students the very best for the future.”
