Barnsley Academy Coronavirus Update Page

6th April Update

Over the Easter period (Monday 6th April until Friday 17th April, Monday to Friday) we will remain open for children of front line NHS staff and emergency services  to enable them to continue their essential work. We will open for the children of these essential front line workers on Good Friday and Bank Holiday Monday. If you would like this provision please email the school at admin@barnsley-academy.org and someone will call you back to discuss arrangements. We would need to know by 1.30pm the day previous to the required provision to give us chance to arrange our staffing. If you fit into the category of being a front line NHS worker or emergency services worker and need support from the school to enable you to work during this very difficult time, please contact us at the admin@barnsley-academy.org email and we will do all we can to support with caring for your children.

23rd March Update

School Closure

From Monday 23rd March, the school will be closed until further notice for the overwhelming majority of students.

This is a directive from government and is part of the national strategy to control the spread of COVID-19.

Students will now continue their learning from home. We have developed the learning materials that each student needs to work from home. Links to work packages for all students can be found under the ‘Learning from Home’ (in Learning header) tab on our website https://www.barnsley-academy.org/ If you experience difficulties in accessing work, you can contact homesupport@unitedlearningyorks.org.uk and one of the ICT Team will support you.

The school will remain open to support the children of critical workers and vulnerable students. This support will be exactly the same as students are receiving from home but will be supervised by staff.

Jobs and professions that are defined as being critical workers are outlined here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

If you are a critical worker and have not yet filled in the form we sent you on Thursday to request your child attends school, please do so immediately. The form is here https://bit.ly/2xMoI1m

The parents and carers of all vulnerable students have now been contacted by the school to make arrangements for their attendance. If you have not been contacted by the school and believe you should have been, please contact us as soon as possible via attendance@barnsley-academy.org

Other than those categories of students listed above, no other student will be allowed into the academy unless this has been agreed in advance, in writing, with the school.

Information about the arrangements for those who receive free school meals to continue to do so are available here: admin@barnsley-academy.org

We will be sending out regular updates to parents but if you have any urgent questions please contact the school via admin@barnsley-academy.org We will endeavour to answer these as quickly as we can but please bear with us at this time.

Any urgent safeguarding issues should be reported to safeguarding@barnsley-academy.org

On behalf of all the staff at Barnsley Academy, we would like to thank you for all your co-operation and support this week and in the weeks to come.

Learning from home is a partnership between parents and school. We will come through this together as a school community.

Please keep safe and follow all the guidance on hygiene and social distancing to minimise you and your family’s risk of infection.

Information and advice

We would like to confirm that Barnsley Academy continues to follow the full advice of Public Health England (links below).
The advice from Public Health England at this time is that all schools should carry on as normal.
We will keep parents updated of any changes should there be any.

We continue to emphasise with both staff and pupils the importance of handwashing and hygiene, in line with the guidance about how best to prevent the spread of infection. We are taking opportunities to reinforce these messages regularly and to encourage staff and pupils to wash their hands at regular points throughout the school day.

The Department for Education has launched a new helpline to answer questions about COVID-19 related to education. Staff, parents and young people can contact the helpline as follows:
