Character Sought

Our Character Sought traits are the golden thread into everything we do — from our curriculum and assemblies to co-curricular, leadership opportunities, volunteering and residential experiences. Each trait reflects the values we expect our students to demonstrate as proud representatives of Barnsley Academy.

Our Character Sought golden thread include:

  • Respect – showing kindness, courtesy and consideration for others at all times.
  • Responsibility – taking ownership of actions, learning and behaviour.
  • Resilience – staying determined, even when things are challenging.
  • Integrity – doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
  • Aspiration – setting ambitious goals and striving to achieve them.
  • Confidence – believing in themselves and contributing positively.
  • Empathy – understanding and valuing the feelings and perspectives of others.
  • Community – giving back, helping others, and taking pride in where we live and learn.

These golden threads guide our students towards becoming well-rounded individuals who are ready for their next steps in education, employment and life. Through consistent expectations, positive role modelling and high-quality character education, every student has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.

At Barnsley Academy, each students partcipation defines the legacy they leave: it is who I am...
